School Information

Coverage

The school operates from its Benfleet, Essex, main office and covers SOUTHEND, ROCHFORD, HOCKLEY, RAYLEIGH, WESTCLIFF, SOUTH WOODHAM FERRERS, LEIGH, HADLEIGH, THUNDERSLEY, WICKFORD, BENFLEET, CANVEY, PITSEA, STANFORD-LE-HOPE, THURROCK AND GRAYS. We also cover parts of Chelmsford, Billericay and Brentwood.

Aims of the School

Our primary aim is to teach pupils to drive safely and in accordance with the Driving Standards Agency’s syllabus.

In order to further this aim we provide a series of “handouts” which, if used as homework study, can improve a pupil’s performance and decrease the number of hours spent under instruction by reducing the need to recap previous lessons prior to progressing to subsequent lessons. An example of these handouts can be seen under “Example Handout

We aim to give our UNDIVIDED attention to our pupils by never allowing more than one pupil in our cars at any one time.

Although we endeavour to get our pupils to pass their test as soon as possible we will never submit a pupil for test until he/she is properly prepared. This is a very stressful time for the pupil and, if fully prepared, he/she has a much better chance of performing well. The aim here is to ensure the safety of the public, the examiner and, of course, the pupil taking the test.

The Theory Test

Nowadays all learner drivers are required to pass a test of their knowledge of the theory of driving. This is NOT similar to the old days of knowing the Highway Code and Road Signs. Today you need a thorough knowledge of the rules of the road regarding: -

  1.  ALERTNESS
  2.  ATTITUDE
  3.  SAFETY & YOUR VEHICLE
  4.  SAFETY MARGINS
  5.  HAZARD AWARENESS
  6.  VULNERABLE ROAD USERS
  7.  OTHER TYPES OF VEHICLE
  8.  VEHICLE HANDLING
  9.  MOTORWAY RULES
  10. RULES OF THE ROAD
  11. ROAD & TRAFFIC SIGNS
  12. DOCUMENTS
  13. ACCIDENTS
  14. VEHICLE LOADING

Each of these fourteen heading are themselves divided into sub-headings so you can see that study is required in order to pass this test. In order to assist our pupils we can hire out a computer to those that do not own one or who do not want to clog up a hard drive with a Theory Test software package. There are, of course, books that can be purchased and details of some of them are listed, together with some sample questions, at Theory Test Study
